MONTOKID SCHOOL GUIDES

A Practical Parent Communication Routine for Montessori Schools

A useful parent communication routine tells families what to expect, shares specific observations and makes the next step clear. Schools can start with a small, consistent routine that teachers can maintain throughout a busy term.

Set expectations at the start

Tell families where routine updates will appear, how often they should expect them and how to contact the school with a question. Keep urgent contact instructions separate and easy to find. Agree on response expectations that are realistic for teachers during the school day.

Make learning updates specific

Describe a moment the teacher observed rather than relying on a general compliment. A fictional example: 'During the sorting activity, the learner grouped the shapes independently and returned the materials to the shelf.' This gives a family a concrete picture of the activity without making a broad claim about development.

  • Name the activity or context.
  • Describe what the child did in observable terms.
  • Mention support when it helps explain the moment.
  • Say whether a response or action is needed.

Separate announcements from individual progress

A school event reminder serves a different purpose from a learner observation. Give each message a clear subject and appropriate audience. For reminders, include the date, what families need to prepare and who can answer questions. For individual updates, check recipient access and follow the school's sharing permissions.

Review the routine with your team

After trying the routine, ask teachers which updates were useful and where work was duplicated. Invite families to explain what was clear or confusing. Montokid's parent communication and learner progress tools can be explored together in a demo to see how they fit your agreed approach.

Common questions

What makes a classroom update useful for parents?

A useful update names the activity, describes what was observed and explains whether the family needs to do anything. A clear audience and predictable communication routine make it easier to follow.
